18 Oct 2001 - Newsletter Issue No. 144

18th October, 2001 Issue No. 144

OPENING OF PLAYGROUND
Thank you to all of you who made Tuesday possible! The children think the area is wonderful and thoroughly enjoyed the ?opening? with Steve Kibble, the PE Adviser and Helen Parkinson, the Area Sports co-ordinator. Jack Atkins? description of the morning just sums our feelings up???..

IT?S OPEN AT LAST

Finally the new safe play area is now open. We had balloons tied up around the netting, parents and visitors came and we even had a camera crew to film us. We had a man and a lady who came to do P.E. with us. We ran around the playground dodging in and out of the cones. We also played a game where some children had different coloured balls. The yellow balls were sugar and the pink balls were healthy hearts.

I thought the opening was brilliant! We all ran round in family groups, the big ones helping the little ones. Half-way through the little ones stopped playing and watched while we played games. I got very excited when I heard we were on TV but when I heard it was on Channel 3 tonight I got over-excited! Then we had to go in and get changed. I give this play area an eleven star rating.

I cannot finish this part of the Newsletter without mentioning two particular families ? the Mckeowns and the Yeos. Without their efforts we would not have raised the money. There are still things to do; designs thought up by the children are still to be painted on the wall and the playground surface is not satisfactory. An ongoing and very time consuming ?conversation? is going on between the contractors and ourselves. However, at the moment the area is open and we are thoroughly enjoying it!

WEB SITE
Another important area we have developed this term is our website ? www.georgehamschool.ik.org. If you have the Internet, please access it for newsletters, updates and a ?flavour? of the school and please make a comment. The children are gradually getting more involved and Year 4 have contributed to a page about the Play Area Opening which will be in place in the next couple of days. Years 2, 5 and 6 are already there!

HALF-TERM
The children break up tomorrow afternoon for the half-term holiday. Please make sure they have taken all their belongings with them including PE kit. We hope everyone has an enjoyable break and look forward to seeing them back in school on Monday 29th October together with their PE kit!
