Residential Visits - Year 2 stay overnight in Georgeham, Year 4 or 5 go to Wembworthy and Year 6 go to London. These residentials are full of new challenges and there were two Wembworthy trips in 2006!
TRAIN JOURNEY
To get to Exeter we went on the 08:59 train. We had to do tick sheets about the landscape on the train and co-ordinates with a map of some of Exeter. We met Mrs Lifford at Eggesford station and she came with us to Exeter.
MUSEUM
The Museum was my favourite part of Exeter. I really enjoyed the art section, the pebbles in the sand, the laughing granny and the monster movie were brilliant. The monster movie was a box on the wall with holes for your eyes, nose and mouth and when you look through you see yourself as a monster! Also if you put on the head phones you can hear it roar. I liked the natural history part too. The bit in the roman section with the model house was also quite interesting. In the museum they said they have the remains of the last Dodo.
UNDERGROUND PASSAGES
The underground passages were brilliant! I thought it was horrible that people used to work down there. The lady who was showing us around said they used to use animal fat and material to mend the old pipes that used to run there. She also told us a story about a boy who worked in the passages, and when he grew up he became a builder. Then he and a friend stole all the piping, melted it and sold it! There was a part of the passages we couldn't go in because it was bombed in the second world war.
CATHEDRAL
The Cathedral was huge! It has the longest vaulted ceiling in the world which was supported with bosses. There were arches with either a dog and a hunter or a cat and a mouse to represent that the bad can't get to the good. We learnt that a lying down statue is called an effigy and the idea of them is that they are looking up to heaven. We saw lots of small statues of Saints. We also did brass rubbings and I did a lion and a unicorn. BY ELLEN, March 2003
WEMBWORTHY CENTRE
MUDDY! WET! DARK! COOL! HIKES! SUMO WRESTLING! SHELTER! BINGO! FOOTBALL! FUN! EXTREME!
I think that Wembworthy was great and my favourite part was building a shelter. My second favourite part was the orienteering. I also really enjoyed the food we had too. BY ZAK March 2003.
The photographs at the very top of the page are of the children who went in June and they had a great time too!
In July 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2004 Class 2 stayed in school for a very exciting sleepover but you will have to see the school diaries for more information about those adventures!
On 20th February 2003 they went to St. George's House for a one night residential stay.... We had a great walk through the woods and down a valley to Lee Bay. There were lots of interesting rocks and shells on the beach.
We cooked our tea back at St. George's House We cooked our tea back at St. George's House. We all brought our teddies with us and entertained each other in the evening. Great fun!!
It was a fantastic time and we can't wait to go away again one day!
