School Year 2003 - 2004 This page is just a small selection of the activities we do in school. Please don't forget to look on the other Gallery pages for sport, clubs, Christmas, outings, etc. which we also update as regularly as we can.

During the Autumn Term all of KS2 have been learning about the Victorians. We have acted out a play in a day and watched a version of Oliver Twist. We have handled artefacts, found out about stamps and used the log book to find out about our school more than 100 years ago. We have also dressed up and had a Victorian day in school which really gave an insight into what life was like! We even experienced PE or drill as they would have called it then. All the children have also given a presentation about a significant person from the Victorian era and we hope to produce a calendar for next year on this theme!
Thanks to the Guardianship Scheme with the National Trust we have been able to build our own dry stone wall which we will be able to compare with those on Baggy Point. Thank you Rob for all your help.
We were delighted to go to Georgeham Village Hall on Monday 13th October to find out about the scheme in Croyde which will help to preserve and enhance parts of footpath 13. Local experts were on hand to talk to us about the bats, dormice, other creatures and plants we might find in the area.
We hope to be able to use this footpath in our environmental studies and watch it change with the seasons in the future.
January 29th 2004 - CHURCH MUSIC DAY
Classes 4 and 5 walked to Croyde Baptist Church after they had learnt at least six new hymns, one in Latin and ranging from 16th century to modern versions. They went to find out 'What's in a church?' and the most special part for all of us was the Baptistry where people are baptised, often as adults, when they are making promises for themselves.

Thank you very much Duncan for showing us around.

During the afternoon the whole of KS2 visited St. George's Church which is a very beautiful building and enjoyed looking at all the carvings. We noted the pews, the altar, the lectern, the pulpit and the stained glass windows while we were there. Usually babies are baptised at the font and godparents make promises for them.

As well as the church visits we really enjoyed singing such a variety of hymns and all the classes achieved so much during the day.

Our thanks must go to Sally, John and Francis who came to teach us all and make the day such an enjoyable occasion.
On Tuesday 13th January Class 2 went on a book hunt around Braunton. They were looking for a book called:
R. Caldecott?s second collection of Pictures & Songs.
They visited the library, the second hand book shop, Squires news agents and the North Devon Hospice charity shop. They found their special book in the charity shop and bought it for £1.50.
They also stopped for a drink in a restaurant, a brilliant way to spend a morning and start their topic on books!
March 5th 2004 was World Book Day. More than half the school dressed up to represent favourite book characters and £106 was raised for 'Books in Africa'. Many of the children recommended books to others and staff enjoyed reading their favourite stories and poems too. A very enjoyable day!
The last week of the Easter term was busy! On Monday we took part in a dance festival for all the schools in Braunton, and on Wednesday morning we were involved in our own magical dance celebration led by Rita Evans who has been teaching dance in school throughout this term. The inspiration came from our own beautiful locality, contrasted with life in India. The younger pupils danced 'Stepping Over Stepping Stones' and 'Teddy Bears' Picnic', while the older pupils took a tongue in cheek look at life in summer at Croyde, portraying their own version of 'Beach Life'. An exotic finale to this enjoyable event was Indian style dancing, created using traditional Indian hand gestures and floor patterns.
Wednesday afternoon saw the whole of KS2 walking to Croyde for the opening of the footpath scheme. Thankyou to everyone who helped to make this possible!

Thursday was the Netball and Football tournament in Braunton again with the girls winning the netball section for the second year running! (Photos in the sport sectopn of the Gallery). Our thanks always go to the police and especially Graham Lees for organising this and Tony Bruce our coach.

On Friday, our last day of term, we held our traditional coffee morning, and all the children took part in an Easter egg hunt. In the afternoon we walked down to Croyde Baptist Church to finish the term with a special Easter service.
Last Easter we had a fantastic competition which involved decorated eggs. This year we have all made gardens, depicting the story of Easter.
It was a wonderful, imaginative display and the children combined different materials to make their gardens so that the Science we have just covered was also incorporated into their designs. Well done everybody!
Class 1 had a very exciting day on Wednesday, 12th May when they visited the Argyll Veterinary Practice in Braunton, as part of this term?s topic.
Mrs. Jo Dyer, the Vet, gave the children a wonderful tour around the surgery and even brought in her own dog Lucy to act as a patient.
The children were able to look at, as well as use some of the equipment and were all very lucky to listen to Lucy's heart beating through the stethoscope. They were also shown an x-ray of a tortoise that was about to lay eggs and a dog that had swallowed a golf ball!
They also saw some of the animals recovering from operations and even stroked a ferret.
The day ended with each child receiving a sticker and lots of ideas to make their own veterinary surgery in the Class 1 role-play area.
