HEELIS - The National Trust Central Office, Swindon.
14th September 2006.
This was a very long trip to go on for classes 4 and 5 but this building had amazing examples of sustainable design that we will all remember for a very long time.
The construction of the roof, the automatic vents and the lighting system were fascinating and even the building itself could be recycled if it needed to be!
The week before this trip Class 4 were repairing and building dry stone walls on Baggy Point, a vital part of the warden's job when looking after the countryside.
Thank you to the National Trust for sponsoring us.
Class 1 have been doing lots of exciting activities during the Autumn Term including creating a science laboratory in their play house! Mrs. Chellow has been in to talk about Thailand and shared some Thai food with the class and they have also been working very hard on the computers improving their mouse skills. The fourth photo shows the children practising road safety.
Classes 3, 4 and 5 did a study of coasts and Classes 3 and 4 went to look at the coastline in November 2006 on the other side of the estuary to compare it with our side. Look at the Christmas pages to find out what we did in December!
KS2 has been studying Britain since 1930 during the Spring Term and Steve Manning came to tell us all about life during the Second World War in the role of Colonel Trotter. The children have been very enthusiastic about the project and Year 6 also went to see lots artefacts from the war at the Cobbaton Combat Collection in January as well.

Everybody in our school had a go at trying to solve puzzles on our Puzzle Day in January. Some of the children were much better than others but nearly everybody wanted to be part of a team rather than trying to do them on their own!
After school parents were invited to have a go with their children and lots of fun was had trying to solve the puzzles.

The summer fete is another special event in the school calendar and this year was no exception. The theme was pirates, we had a fancy dress competition won by Anaya Evans and Class 1 had a special pirate song for us. We also had a gymnastics' display, the broom dancing and a special demonstration of dance by class 2 led by Rita Evans. Thank you to all those who ran stalls in any way and particular thanks must go to Julie Turner the present chair of FROGS.
Des Miles led another excellent concert on 18th July. Over 40 children took part including 3 former pupils Katie Barlow, Gemma Carter and Martha Bailey. We know that Des' talents will be sorely missed at Georgeham School.

The 19th July was a very special day and celebrated my 10 years at Georgeham. All the classes performed brilliantly but you would wonder how Class 5 learnt anything from me!
This was followed by a presentation in St George's which was so much appreciated and then off to the beach and finally Polly's.
Thank you to everyone for such a memorable and 'appropriate' day - JT

The last week of term for Y6 is always special. This year they went to Funderzone for their outing on Tuesday evening and also had the cycle ride on Wednesday.
On Friday they had a very special lunch which Mrs Ash organises and a cake! Many, many thanks.
We also have a very special leaver's assembly full of memories, presentations and goodbyes.

Throughout the last two terms we have thought about stories from the Bible that we as a school think are special. We have learnt about them in our assemblies and created a wall hanging of them which Sue Oldham our Foundation Governor was delighted to receive. Thank you to Ella Tagg's Mum Nicki who supported us all the way with her expertise.
I thanked everyone for my special day and introduced Ibrahim. In Britain our Y6 children automatically go on to Secondary education. This doesn't happen in Uganda and I hope that by getting to know him it will be possible to appreciate what we all take for granted in our lives.
Finally I gave out the two cups for achievement to Lawrence Pearse and Jack Hartnoll, two boys who have been an example for us all. Very well done.
